Kunming capital of
Yunnan Province, is known as 'the City of Eternal Spring' for
its pleasant climate and flowers that bloom all year long. With
a history of more than 2,400 years, it was the gateway to the
celebrated Silk Road that facilitated trade with Tibet, Sichuan,
Myanmar, India and beyond. Today it is the provincial political,
economical and cultural center of Yunnan as well as the most
popular tourist destination in southwest China.
The city center is an attraction with its two squares (Jinma
Biji Square, Dongfeng Square) and five intersecting roads
(Dongfeng Road, Jinbi Road, Zhengyi Road, Renmin Road and
Qingnian Road). Of these, Jinma Biji Square (also known as Jinbi
Square) has the most eye-catching archways and stylish
architectures. Qingnian Road, Zhengyi Road and Renmin Road are
the main commercial areas. The most popular pedestrian streets
are Nanping Street, Jingxing Flowers & Birds Market, and Jinma
Biji Fang. The city is also the focal point of Yunnan minority
culture. Some 26 ethnic minorities such as Yi, Bai, Miao, Dai,
and Hani inhabit this region.

Kunming Transportation
With convenient transport links in and out of the
city, Kunming welcomes and sees off tens of
thousands of visitors every day. As southwest
China’s transportation hub, the city plays a
significant role for connecting Southeast Asia and
China. The city also provides links to many popular
destinations elsewhere in Yunnan such as Dali,
Lijiang, and Shangri-La.
>>Kunming Train Schedule
There are three railway stations in the city:
Kunming Railway Station was built in 1958. It
is located on the south of Beijing Road in Guandu
District. It is the transportation intersection of
rail lines to/from Chengdu, Guiyang, and Nanning.
These railway lines connect Yunnan with the
national railway system, passengers can go to
Beijing, Shanghai, Xi'an, Shenzhen, Jinan, Dali,
Lijiang and other cities conveniently.
The South Railway Station mainly operate
bullet trains to/from major cities in China, such as
Dali, Lijiang, Shanghai, Nanning, Hangzhou, Yiwu,
Jinhua, Changsha etc. In the near future,
international trains to/from Laos, Myanmar and
Thailand will also be operated here.
The West Railway Station mainly operates
freight transport, and passenger transport lines to
Panzhihua only.

Location: Kunming Changshui International Airport lies nearby
Changshui Village, Guandu District in the northeast of Kunming
city and is 25 kilometers (about 15.5 miles) from the city
center.
>>Kunming Railway Station
Kunming Railway Station is 19 miles (30 kilometers) from
Changshui International Airport, 8 miles (13 km) from Dianchi
Lake, 53 miles (85 kilometers) from Stone Forest, 2 miles (3
kilometers) from Jinbi Square (city center) and 17 miles (28 km)
from Kunming South Railway Station.
>>Kunming Metro
Currently, there are four lines in operation, Line 1, Line 2,
Line 3 and Line 6, while the second phases of Line 2 and Line 6
are under construction. As it is planned, Kunming will operate 9
metro lines, linking the major passenger distribution centers in
the city like Kunming Railway Station and Changshui
International Airport.
